Actually, it doesn't take place in an undisclosed location. During the stage introduction, it notes the location as "Prypiat, Ukraine". But yes, I'm sure that's the exact location they used, that's first thing I thought as well.

Yes, you are right. This wheel is pretty famous (if you've played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - there is whole location "Pripyat", and that wheel of course also is there).
Also team that made stalker earlier published their photos taken during visit to Chernobyl - the whole game replicate real places.

Wow. I think that this exact location was modeled in Call of Duty 4 for one of the single player levels. You and a fellow sniper take cover in the shadow of a Ferris wheel that looks exactly like this one, in an undisclosed location inside the Chernobyl disaster zone. What are the odds?
