Once again it's big, rusted strange and beautiful and it's in Russia. Few Km north of Saint Petersburg this giant Antonov An-8 plane rests in the woods. Why is it there, how long has it been there? If you have any info drop me a line.

Promyshlennyi is a small city located in Vorkuta area. I can't find any valid information on its history. It is said that the city was abandoned more than 20 years ago, possibly before the end of USSR. Any information about the city history is welcome.

I love this picture by photographer Andrew Moore, it looks so much like it's taken in Africa. In fact, and it's quiet surprising the location is in the far north-east of Russia on the Sakhalin Island.

This collection of sunken ships has been very popular on Russian websites recently. I don't have so much information about them, there seem to be Russian and international ships left to sink in a specific, which i suppose is a sort of ship graveyard.

I spent hours to locate them precisely, they are located in a small bay south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at coordinates : 52°57'22.24"N 158°40'56.91"E. The harbours in this area are frozen half year, which explain the amount of ice visible.

A Wing In Ground-effect vehicle (WIG) is a vehicle that attains level flight near the surface of the Earth, made possible by a cushion of high-pressure air created by the aerodynamic interaction between the wings and the surface known as ground effect

The VVA-14 is not a true WIG vehicle, since the ground effect is only a take off aid. The VVA-14 cruises at an altitude of 10 km where its cruise speed is reached. The first flight of the VVA-14 took place in 1972.

In 1976 a VVA-14 prototype was converted to a VVA-14M1P, the inflatable pontoons were replaced by rigid ones and two additional D-30M turbofans were installed at the nose of the vehicle. These engines blow in the cavity under the wing for PAR take off.

The last model of VVA-14M1P rests in the Air Force Museum of Monino, Moscow, Russia.

Sometime in the ‘70s, Nezametnaya Cove became a ship graveyard. Back then the shipyards had a hard time keeping up with the regular and urgent orders, so as a rule, they didn’t even begin to deal with dismantling old submarines.

So they resolved the problem of their scrapping very simply: if they weren’t sunk as targets during exercises, they were towed to the next cove over where the hull soon just floated on the surface. According to the accounts of veterans, there were still some ships and boats floating there
